Welcome To My First Blog

I struggled for quite awhile with the idea of posting a blog on our Sleep Comfort website -- and I finally decided to take the plunge. Why? Because I believe my experience in this industry may be helpful to a lot of people. Over the past twenty years I've been involved in the research, development and manufacturing of several sleep and comfort products.

I've spoken with thousands of people who struggle each night and day to rest comfortably. Hopefully, my writings here -- as well as your helpful advice -- will reach someone who can benefit from our information, experience and opinions. So, as we move forward, I invite you to help me help others with your experiences, too.

How I Got Started In This Business

My family has always been a close family. Growing up I spent every Sunday going to church and then to my Grandmother's house for the rest of the day. There was no television -- but lots of baking, cooking, eating and, of course, conversation. Could my family talk! I loved every minute and developed a very close relationship with my Grandmother.

As she got older, her arthritis became more and more severe -- eventually debilitating her. She moved in with my family and we all helped to take care of her. Although we didn't mind doing so, she was a proud lady and felt that she was a burden. What bothered her most was her inability to get in and out of bed. During the day, there was always someone around -- but at night she needed to wake someone up. That bothered her more than it bothered us. But my Grandmother was a proud woman and valued her independence highly.

Because we loved her so much, we all pitched in and bought her an electric adjustable bed. At first, my Grandmother couldn't understand why. Then we showed her how she could raise her upper body all the way up while keeping her legs flat. Once in this sitting position, all she had to do was slide her legs off the mattress and stand up. She no longer needed to rely on the strength in her stomach muscles to get up. The bed was supporting her fully so there was less pressure and pain on her joints while she got out of bed. And getting back in bed was the same process -- only in reverse.

This simple ability came from a unique bed that gave my Grandmother something much more than a comfortable mattress. It gave her independence and dignity. My Grandmother was much different after that. I saw the difference a bed could make in a person's life. She was happier, more independent and in less pain. Shortly after that, I began my career in the adjustable bed industry and have never looked back.

I continue to believe in the value of this product and the benefits it can provide to the millions of us who struggle each day and night with sleep or health issues.
